Guest speaker - Rebecca McLennan
On Monday 21 June, our guest speaker was Rebecca McLennan, Equine Psychotherapist, Counsellor and Hypnotherapist.
Rebecca, whose clinical background was on office space, took her passion for horses to America in 2012 to observe and learn more about the benefits horses had with returned military personnel. Rebecca returned to Australia and commenced training at Daylesford and now leases land at Rockbank and owns 3 horses.
Rebecca and her horses work with clients of all ages, from children through to the elderly, all with diverse backgrounds and with diverse issues and health conditions.
The therapy is experimental using mindfulness and Buddhist techniques. Clients choose the horse they would like to work with. Rebecca observes the collaborative behaviour of the client and the horse and then enquires with the client what thoughts and feelings arose, eventually to draw out issues relating to them. This holistic approach to therapy encourages and teaches the client to listen to their body where all the information required resides. Amazing results are achieved with the client learning happiness, confidence and self-esteem.
